Snails love Compost

...and they're not the only residents of San Francisco that do. Composting is definitely one of my favorite things about the City. Of course I don't like to hang out in the composting bin like these guys...

but I love the idea of composting. The City makes it so easy. You get a green bin and all you have to do is throw all your compostables in it. No worms, no chopping food scraps up into small pieces, no turning piles or mixing the proper ratio of "browns" and "greens". It's so simple. San Francisco's composting program is the largest of it's kind in the nation, and is helping the city reach towards it's goal of diverting 75% of recyclable waste away from landfills. Not only that, the vineyards in Napa and Sonoma love the rich brown soil that is created in the process. Composting is good for the City, good for the Earth, and help makes some of the best wine in the world. What's not to like about that?

Adventuring

The Sunset Neighborhood from above

Today was an adventure kind of day. The rain subsided and gave way to a beautiful sunny day in the Sunset...something that despite the name doesn't happen nearly enough. Nik and I, in our attempt to find the world's greatest sandwich, had lunch at the Submarine Center in West Portal. An amazing no nonsense sandwich to say the least. After just missing out on a bum altercation, we headed down the street to get cookies at West Portal Bakery. Loved this place when we lived at the Villas, still do. Back up the street to the West Portal library branch. Of course I found another cookbook to check-out, My Sweet Vegan. Following the library Nik made me walk up countless hills, and we're talking real San Franicso style hills here. Totally wore me out, but the view from the top was nothing less than amazing (I would have taken better photos, but all I had was my Blackberry). Sunset Heights is one of the cutest, quietest neighborhoods in the city. I love it! In usual fashion, I was wearing the worst adventuring shoes ever. So after making our way down to Judah street, we hopped on the N and came back home. Adventuring is definitely the best thing to do in San Francisco, and it's free!!!
